This lecture is an overview of the fascinating development of Hebrew songs, revealing the history of Israel.
Following the history of Israeli popular songs, from the days of the pioneers to our days of hip-hop and rock'n'roll, we will find key milestones in the history of Israel, as many of those beautiful songs reveal the story of Israel. From this ocean of beauty and wisdom we can learn about historical events and the deep psychology of the people who sang them. Ideologies, zeitgeists, dreams, hopes, national and religious motivations, all are encapsulated in these myriad songs.
In this lecture, or a series of lectures, we will listen to songs, acquaint ourselves with their lyrics, and try to follow the pathways that they leave in the history of Israel.
